About the author

A daughter of the West Side, writing it all down.

“Born on a Virginia farm in 1911.”

Hazel Walker — grandmother, family matriarch, Harlem resident during the Renaissance — settled in Asbury Park after a summer job at the shore. Her life is the seed of the whole shelf.

I picked up Volume Six and just kept reading — it’s that captivating. What stayed with me is that stories can lift a weight off you. They’re therapeutic.
