Ask about a visitAbout the author
A daughter of the West Side, writing it all down.
“Born on a Virginia farm in 1911.”
Hazel Walker — grandmother, family matriarch, Harlem resident during the Renaissance — settled in Asbury Park after a summer job at the shore. Her life is the seed of the whole shelf.
Kelly Walker Edwards is a native of Asbury Park, New Jersey and a graduate of Asbury Park High School. After a career in corporate communications and technology education, she began publishing in 2019 with Now Is the Acceptable Time, a five-star-reviewed memoir honoring her grandmother.
Eight books later, she writes and publishes under her trademark Narrative Nips® — short stories, poems and prose you can take in one sitting, carrying three generations of family memory, reflective experiences, and stories shared.
Her newest volume is dedicated to the West Side neighborhood that nurtured her.

I picked up Volume Six and just kept reading — it’s that captivating. What stayed with me is that stories can lift a weight off you. They’re therapeutic.
